Thanks to the large travel group we were able to take with us not only medical consumables from Switzerland but also various bags of yoghurt and cheese cultures.
Originally it was planned to hand over these cultures during our visit to the village of Samhun. For various reasons, this was not possible. With a heavy heart we left the bags with their temperature sensitive content to our contact person in Pyongyang. Will he be able to keep them refrigerated and hand them over in time? After all, we took care to keep them cool at every place during the whole trip. When the rooms are well heated – and they almost always were – it wasn’t that easy!
We were amazed when we heard shortly afterwards that on the same day (!), in order not to interrupt the cold chain, someone travelled from Samhun to Pyongyang and picked up the cultures. After all they reached their destination. And we could measure their value for the North Koreans!
