At the beginning of November a group of North Korean specialists visited Germany and Switzerland to learn more about potato growing and also about processing and mechanisation. Daniel Gerster, long-standing expert in Korea, organised a diverse specialist programme at Agroscope, a crisps manufacturer and at several farms.
We were pleased to see the translator of the group again, as he was also part of a similar training Programme two years ago. He especially thanked us for the potato peeler that his wife appreciates and has used daily since then. He also mentioned the friendly hospitality that he had experienced in Switzerland that had deeply impressed and surprised him.
This time officials from Taehondang, a district in the far north of the land, were part of the group. This is the place our cheesemaker had started a dairy in collaboration with the DEZA and had trained the staff members.
They tell us that this dairy still exists and is still producing yogurt. We hope that these inputs and the opportunity of this training will have a long-term effect in the country and on the visitors.
